• By the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Multiregional OPfor Spain, Thematic Objective 7:Sustainable transport, line improvement works with an estimated funding of 97.4 million euros.

• By the EU funding instrument "Connecting Europe Facility" (CEF): improvement to the access to Girona station with a funding of 0.1 million euros and updating the ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System) to base line 2, version 2.3.0d and updating GSM-R to Eirene 7/15 Specifications for the Madrid - Barcelona section, with a funding of 2.5 million euros.

Over the period 2014-2020, the following will be co-financed:

• By the "Connecting Europe Facility" (CEF), track assembly and facilities with a funding of 1.1 million euros.

The track assembly and the facilities for the expansion of the Atocha - Torrejón de Velasco section, that will optimize the commissioning of the tunnel, will be co-financed in the 2014-2020 period by the EU funding instrument "Connecting Europe Facility" (CEF) with a funding of 9.9 million euros.
